DERANGED is a brilliantly terrifying presentation of an issue that most of us would rather not talk about but is as real as the hairs on our head. It is a short film that I wish was a full-length feature film. The plot is an intricately spinned web of twisted emotions, obsessions and needy control. It is wholesomely intelligent, brilliantly scripted and the acting is really impressive! The director of this ambitiously simple film, Lawrence Chukwu, outdid himself by all standards, innocently raising the bar a notch for not just other filmmakers but himself too. And to think the movie was shot on a wallet sized budget, amazing!I have to first warn you though, if your expectations are of an easy to the eye viewing, then you will be heartbroken.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS
Deranged is a story of a wife and mother, who must choose between commitment and freedom when push comes to shove and lives are put at risk in the hands of one who is familiar.
DIRECTOR
Lawrence Chukwu is a Nigerian Writer and Director, a graduate of Mass Communication from Benue State University, Makurdi. He is also gifted singer/songwriter and actor. He started out playwriting high school plays as the head of the school’s Literary/Drama Guild.He has collaborated on projects with Nigerian and International filmmakers, including Hollywood actors, Jimmy Jean-Louis (PhatGirlz,), Steven Skylar (Power Rangers) etc. He’s currently collaborating on the 2015 American horror flick, Voodoo, from the stables of Romane Simon Productions anda romantic/thriller film, Something Beautiful, currently in pre production with a Hollywood production company, TME Productions. His Nollywood film, Rose of Love, an indie project from his Billbox Pictures imprint was well received on the Nigerian scene.
CAST
Nwamadi Kingsis an award winning and fast rising Nollywood actor. He’s highly disciplined with an impressive catalogue of over fifty movies, which includes starring roles in ‘Magaret Thatcher’ alongside some of Nollywood’s A list actors like Desmond Elliot and Jackie Appiah. His other projects are Demons in Town, Rose of Love etc. He has collaborated on a several projects with the Director and this seamless synergy is translated beautifully in Deranged.
Ocheibi Abigail is a beautiful actress, model and writer. Raised in Lagos, Nigeria where she discovered her budding passion for acting by appearing in church plays. Her zeal to perfect her acting skills led her to participate in school and local productions such as ‘This is my Story’, ‘Moral Decadence’ and ‘Olila’.
As a Model, she has been the brand face of Atalia Fashion, MarcAnthony Makeover and Mymusicplus.com.
She is also a freelance writer, contributing articles for The Voice Newspaper, Community Outreach and Masscope etc.
