Ortom Is Not On Vacation

News, Benue News, Benue, Samuel Ortom, Ortom Is Not On Vacation
Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to one Mark Mentors Igoche Agbo and published in Daybreak Newspaper, alleging that Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has gone on leave and handed over to Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Targema Takema instead of the Deputy Governor, Engr Benson Abounu. The statement which is obviously aimed at scoring cheap political points ahead of the Benue South re-run senatorial election, further insinuates that Governor Ortom is marginalising Idomas in favour of Tivs.

The allegation is not only malicious and mischievous but also exposes the person to whom it is attributed as not conversant with current happenings in Benue State.

Since Governor Ortom assumed duty on May 29 last year, he has not yet gone on leave and is currently not on vacation. The Governor informed the State Executive Council last week about his intention to proceed on vacation but he is yet to do so. His recent trip to Abuja and Kaduna was in continuation of his official duties as Governor, and he is back to the state performing his functions.

When the Governor begins his vacation, he will handover to his Deputy, Engr Benson Abounu as the law stipulates and not any other official of Government.

The people of Benue State are therefore advised to ignore any misleading statement made by hangers-on to curry favours from their political fathers.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor
