It should have become obvious and clear to all watchers and political scholars that the arrest and subsequent incarceration of Governor Samuel Ortom’s Special Adviser on Special Duties, Arc. Joe Kyaagba over suspicion in his complicity in the death of late Senior Special Assistant on Special Security, Mr. Denen Igbana is clearly an episode in the struggle for relevance in Vandeikya Local Government Chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC).
Historically, Joe Kyaagba is known to have done so very much to buoy the APC in Zones A & B of Benue State, particularly in his native Local Government Area of Vandeikya. He lent his time, vigorous effort, household/its facilities and much more during the registration exercise of the party right through to the general elections of 2015. It is in the context of such settings and personal contributions and more that prompted him to aspire to be the State Secretary of the party in Benue State. Everything seemed quite in his favour till a group of self-styled party leaders mainly from the Kyaan constituency of his home Vandeikya LGA resisted this and caused the position to be zoned elsewhere just so that Joe Kyaagba would be left in the lurch. In time, it became evident that this conspiracy was put together by the Benue Puppeteer.
When the APC won the state elections in 2015 and slots were being shared among the political blocks of Benue State, Arc. Joe Kyaagba angled himself to be made the Secretary to the Benue State Government. The very Vandeikya conspirators played the same scenario and Joe was denied the position of SSG and the Benue Puppeteer pulled his strings and whisked the position.
Out of sheer magnanimity and benevolence and in appreciable acknowledgement of Joe Kyaagba’s contributions to the party and its electoral performance, the Governor appointed him as his Special Adviser. This too did not go down well with theVandeikya conspirators. Indeed, they were chagrined and seemed to have resolved to remove every facet of relevance which Joe Kyaagba was open to.
In no time the opportunity did come. Zaki Atser Dyako, the late TerKunav, paramount Ruler of the Kunav (Vandeikya) people, died. Kunav Development Association (KUDA), under Joe Kyaagba as President General, organized and gave the deceased such a befitting burial that reflected his royalty. This definitely did not go down well with his traducers. Indeed, Joe Kyaagba’s pristine performance was perceived as a big threat that needed to be stopped. Soon several accusations were leveled against Joe Kyaagba like he being one “spoiling” the APC in Vandeikya, he rubbing shoulders with and “de-shining elders” especially a Commissioner (a rookie politician) who considers himself the political leader of Kunav APC.
Well, the other day, this Commissioner led a select delegation to the Governor of Benue State and fingered Joe Kyaagba as being responsible for the brutal murder of Denen Igbana. At this forum this Commissioner selected those who would speak as proxies with a mandate of false accusations against Joe Kyaagba. The delegation met in his house before the meeting. The delegation met again in his house immediately after the meeting to review their outing. Just by the way, if this Honourable Commissioner only handled his ministry with half the dexterity he showed in the Kyaagba issue the parent-student-teacher index would have the best in Nigeria.
Back to the Kyaagba issue, this commissioner released a statement on the 7th of June, 2016 (one full day after Joe had been arraigned in the Magistrate Court and about three full weeks after the murder of Denen Igbana) with an outrageous claim of prior knowledge of a feud between Joe Kyaagba and late Denen Igbana to shore up the First Information Report (FIR) with the authorities, invariable calling the dead witness to their plight. What a conspiracy.
It is a fact that the statements of late Denen Igbana’s son, wife and the first neighbor that came to the scene (statements which are with the police) did not mention Joe Kyaagba. If the son and wife did not mention Joe Kyaagba’s name in their sworn statements, it is only conspirators that would manufacture accusations just to give a dog a bad name to hand it! That might well explain why those conspirators would manufacture a false visitation by the former Governor, Gabriel Suswam to Joe Kyaagba in detention on a Sunday (a non-visiting day to the Prisons). Those conspirators will stop at nothing to muster public hate and opprobrium on Joe Kyaagba.
It must be said that this whole tango is about the 2023 Benue State Governorship election. It is all about preparing the ground for Governor Ortom to anoint Prof. Dennis Ityavyar as the next Governor of Benue State. It is about people who want to play God. It is all about the machinations of little minded people who have no sense of history and destiny. Accounts of Joseph the Dreamer in the Old Testament; Madiba, Nelson Mandela; Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo and even Umaru Yar’Adua’s harvest of Shehu Yar’Adua’s goodwill are evergreen reminders of fate.
For the records, Joe Kyaagba’s traducers are not many; just a handful of conceited people with hate really profound and the proof of which was manifest in the flare and spread which his detention was orchestrated to. They sang and danced ‘tango’; they clapped to lowly hell ‘target down’……on and on. They were so delighted with themselves that they refused to see that what they set playing was a “guerilla roulette”. Oh, how they will come to learn that time is a mirror!
