We Did Not Cancel Or Postpone The Mass Burial Of Fresh Fulani Herdsmen Attack, It Will Hold Next Week - Benue State Government

Yesterday, Lasgidi Online reported that the Benue State Governemnt has cancelled the planned mass burial for the victims of a fresh herdsmen/farmers clash in Omusu village in Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state which has left 24 people dead.
Governor Samuel Ortom's Chief Press Secretary, Mr Terver Akase has reacted to the news saying the government never announced that there was going to be any mass burial yesterday saying the media only chose the date and promoted it.

Mr Akase commented on a Facebook post explaining that the mass burial was neither cancelled nor postponed as it is being reported in the media. He said it takes time to put logistics in place to do a mass burial so this won't be a different case.

His comment reads;

"Good morning. We at no time made any official announcement that there would be mass burial of the Okpokwu victims today. The media only chose the date they wanted to promote. But when what began like a rumour was becoming widespread, I had to issue that single paragraph statement. The burial was scheduled for next week the very day Governor Ortom visited Okpokwu. You know it takes time to put logistics in place to do a mass burial. Remember the one in Makurdi on January 11 took place not less than 10 days after the new year attacks. If the govt does not plan the event well, the people complaining now about a "postponement" that never was will be the same to criticise the govt for a poor job. The mass burial will hold next week . It will take place as planned. Once more, let me appreciate the good people of Benue State for standing solidly behind their Governor in these very difficult moments. This storm will soon be over".
The mass burial is billed to take place on Thursday 15th March in Okpokwu Local Government Area.
