The Managing Director of Chi Ltd Deepanjan Roy said the company will work with the National Human Rights Commission in the North East to ensure that children of the Internally Displaced Persons get adequate nutrition from their products.
He stated this in Lagos when he received a delegation from the Commission led by its Executive Secretary Tony Ojukwu Esq.
Mr. Roy said Chi is currently implementing a project called " Nurture the child" in the North East, and would like to partner with the Commission on this.
He said Chi Ltd is human rights complaint in conducting its business. He said "staff welfare is the company's priority because staff have to be happy doing what they are doing.
" In the ten years I have served in this company, no single staff has been dismissed we have provided so many incentives for our staff" .
The Executive Secretary of the Commission said the meeting will provide an opportunity for the Commission to emphasize on the need for Companies to mainstream human rights as they conduct their businesses, noting that some business owners only pre occupy themselves with making huge profits at the detriment of the rights of other persons.
He said the Commission encourages businesses to flourish but must respect human rights when doing this. He added that keeping people in business will help to guarantee human rights.
He said the Commission is currently working on a National Action Plan on Human Rights and Business which is aimed at serving as a guide to the way businesses are conducted in Nigeria.
On the issue of IDP Children, Ojukwu said like Chi Ltd, the Commission is currently partnering with UNHCR on a project on monitoring and documening human rights and humanitarian challenges affecting the Internally Displaced Persons and Returness in the North East. "Your indication to partner with with us in addressing the plight of the IDPs by providing nutrition for the children is a welcome development and will be an added advantage to the project"
The NHRC CEO also used the medium to invite the Company to help sponsor a television program " silent prejudice"as a way of further creating awareness on human rights by discouraging the practice of obnoxious culture which still exists among our people.
