James Faleke, the running mate to late All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu, has said that becoming Deputy Governor under Governor-elect, Yahaya Bello would amount to a betrayal of Audu.
Faleke said further that he would continue to pursue the governorship mandate which rightfully belongs to him, Punch reports.
Faleke and Audu were in the lead after contesting the November 21 elections in the state but their impending victory was terminated by Audu’s sudden death on November 22.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) subsequently authorized the APC to nominate another candidate to take Audu’s place.
Bello was chosen and Faleke was again given the position of running mate but the decision did not sit well with him.
Faleke is currently contesting INEC’s decision in court and has chosen Audu’s son, Mohammed to be his running mate.
“I will defend my rights under the Constitution of Nigeria. I will still go ahead to pursue the matter at the tribunal. Yes the matter is in court. I have my right under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to defend and I will defend it,” he said.
