N700M Scandal: Group Calls For Benue Deputy Speakers Resignation

Following the recent scandal that has rocked the Benue State House of Assembly, a pressure group, Benue Youth Alliance (BYA) has demanded that the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. James Okefe resigns.

In a press release signed by the group’s Coordinator, Comrade Ochai Ekoja, they condemned the frequent controversies the Deputy Speakers has constantly involved the state assembly which said is supposed to be a bastion of integrity.

According to them the continued shielding of Okefe by the State Assembly and its leadership speaks volumes of the characters of those who constitute the state’s legislative arm of government.

“we are perturbed by the most recent scandal of 700 million Naira which has in mention the usual protagonist- James Okefe, even as were are not surprised that it is coming from his quarters. However we are dismayed that the Benue State House of Assembly which is supposed to be a bastion of integrity is yet to make clear its stance on the position. Until this is done we lose our faith in her and its dealings”. It read in part.

Speaking further, they wondered why the Speaker and other principal officers have constantly defended Okefe who is continuously enmeshed in controversy. According to them, the further defence and silence on the matter of Okefe’s fraudulent actions will prove that they are accomplices in the act.

Meanwhile the group has issued a one week ultimatum to the Assembly to take its position on the matter upon which expiration they will be forced to legally take the matter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
