It has been revealed that at least two residents and three policemen sustained serious injuries with one of the policemen taking a shot to the head in the course of Tuesday’s Igando militants attack.

Gunmen suspected to be militants attacked the Pacific Estate on Ikejiobi Avenue, Ewedogbon in the Igando area of Lagos early Tuesday, looting shops within the estate and shooting sporadically.

Security operatives who responded to distress calls engaged the militants in a seven-hour gun battle during which three policemen attached to the Igando police division sustained injuries.

According to Punch, two residents identified as Baba Victor and Adedokun, were similarly injured during the Igando attack.

A policemen was shot in the head in the ensuing gun battle, but according to police authorities, survived the attack and was receiving treatment in a government hospital as of Tuesday evening.

Some residents of the area who had earlier been abducted by the militants were also said to have regained their freedom.

Following the Igando attack, however, at least four streets in the area – Ojo Benjamin, Kehinde Ashafa, Ganiyu Adekunle and Ikejiobi – have now been left deserted.

A detachment of soldiers was deployed to the area Tuesday evening as more residents moved their belongings out.

Thirteen police vans, two Rapid Response Squad armoured tanks and three OP MESA vans were sighted at the bus stop with displaced residents numbering over 200 people.

A policeman, who had gone to the waterside, said the gunmen arrived at the riverside around 6am, adding that they could have collaborators in the estate.

Speaking on the Igando militants attack, Lagos police public relations officer, Dolapo Badmos, said the police had yet to make any arrest even though they were on the trail of the perpetrators. She added that normalcy had been restored to the area.
