L-R Social media activist, Ukan Kurugh and Kever Bemdoo |
Some weeks ago we posted about a Benue State University student been detained by the Police in Makurdi, Benue State, he was bailed yesterday.
Here is a report by social media activist, Ukan Kurugh who started the struggle for his release.
The magistrate who has been ill for some time now appeared in court today and revealed that Bemdoo's case had motivated her to show up, hence the urgency of his plight and the fact that he was already missing examinations as well as the public and social media outcry on his case. She initially revealed that only Bemdoo would be considered, hence he was the only reason why she came to work against her health challenge.
The prosecutor to the case opened up that there was no substantive case against all the people who had been arrested in connection to the setting ablaze of a police patrol vehicle in Makurdi and pleaded that all persons connected to the case be granted bail. The magistrate who asked the others to make bail applications after much persuasion agreed that all the others sail on Bemdoo's wings and equally enjoy bail. 18 persons in addition to Bemdoo therefore were admitted to bail. This was done in the Magistrate's office and not in court hence the magistrate health condition.
This has further proven that, in our little way, we can always contribute to the cause of justice as shown in the efforts towards the bail of Bemdoo Kever. I sincerely wish to appreciate all those who showed concern and equally made efforts to help. I salute the courage of some of the students of BSU who followed up, the prosecutor and all others I can't mention by name. I take a humble bow to the Magistrate for summoning courage to enhance justice. Finally, I thank the teeming social media community for been there for the less privileged and hope that we do more in making the world a better place.
Enjoy your studies and have the best of luck in your examinations our dear, Bemdoo Kever.
Persistence it is said breaks resistance and this may have come to play in the concerted effort against unjust arrest and incarceration of of Bemdoo Kever, a newly admitted student of Benue State University, who since arrest has missed his matriculation and 3 days into his examination. Finally, he has been granted bail and can now join his colleagues in taking examinations even though he did not attend lectures.
