The state government added that its intention is “to build the capacity of final year students with entrepreneurship and work readiness skills so they can smoothly access the world of work either as entrepreneurs or employees soon after graduation.”

According to the special adviser to the Lagos state governor on education, Mr Fela Bank-Olemoh, over 3,000 final year students applied to participate in the project out of which only 500 were selected for a 13-week vocational training.

Of the 500 students admitted into the programme, 426 met the criteria for graduation which comprised punctuality checks, attendance at a minimum of 24 classes and completing assignments given by facilitators.

Bank-Olemoh also expressed the satisfaction of the state government with the feedback received from facilitators about the set of students that participated in the empowerment programme.

In his speech at the event, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode urged the graduates to do more than giving their best but also ensure that they deliver on what is required.

Ambode announced that the participation slots would be increased from 500 to 1,000 for the next edition of the #ReadySetWork initiative.

At least 80 graduates of the empowerment programme will benefit from internship opportunities with multinational corporations working in partnership with the Lagos state government.

At the close of the event, the state government presented prizes to the top three groups of student innovators after they pitched their ideas.

The best group, BioGas got an extra gift of N5million from Governor Ambode.
