Following Hurricane Irma which made landfall on Wednesday and has wrecked huge havoc along the Caribbean islands, forecasted to strike South Florida over the weekend and has now been suspected to extend its expression to Georgia, President Donald Trump has therefore declared a state of emergency in the State of Georgia.
The White House disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
According to the release, the President authorised “the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), to coordinate all disaster relief efforts, in-order to help alleviate the hardship and suffering that the emergency may inflict on the local population, and provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures across all the counties of the state.”
Trump authorised FEMA specifically to identify, mobilise, and provide, at its discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency, and he also named Thomas J. McCool as the Federal Coordinating Officer for Federal recovery operations in the affected areas.
