Federal Lawmakers Commend Ambode On School Infrastructure Projects





Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday received commendation from Members of the Federal House of Representatives for embarking on schools infrastructure projects that are impacting positively on the delivery of quality education in the State.
The commendation was given by the Chairman, Federal House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and other Services, Hon. Zakari Muhammed when he led members of his committee on a courtesy call to the Office of the Deputy Governor at the “Round House”, Alausa, Ikeja on Monday.

Hon. Muhammed disclosed that the committee was on an inspection tour of various projects executed under the State Universal Basic Education Projects (SUBEB) across the country with a view to ascertaining if the fund allocated to implement SUBEB projects across the 36 states were judiciously spent by their Governors on projects that impact positively on education.

The Chairman commended the Lagos State government for embarking on a meaningful infrastructure project in schools, expressing the committee’s satisfaction on the quality of materials used in most of the schools visited and noted that sustainable growth in education can only be achieved when conducive learning environment is provided.

He specifically commended the State government for the use of metal windows and other quality materials in all the schools visited, stressing that metal windows apart from providing good ventilation for students also have durability advantage and called on other States to borrow a leaf from the Lagos state government by using materials that will stand the test of time.

While urging the State government not to relent in providing leadership direction in the implementation SUBEB programmes in the country, the Chairman called on the State government to urgently facilitate the process of accessing the remaining funds from the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) budgetary provision, assuring that the committee would assist to access the fund having been satisfied that the earlier funds allocated to the State for SUBEB projects were judiciously utilized.

In her remarks, the Deputy governor, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule who received the Federal lawmakers on behalf of Governor Ambode applauded the legislatures for contributing to the growth of education in the country through appropriate legislation.

Adebule stated that Lagos State being the Centre of excellence cannot but offer the best educational system in line with the vision of becoming a Model State in education for Africa.

She assured the committee that the State government under the leadership of the Governor would continue to implement quality educational programmes that will make education in the State rank among the best in the world.
