The immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Babachir used his position as the Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on the North East PINE to divert funds to some companies linked to him. He was accused of using over N200 million to cut grasses at IDP camps.
EFCC Acting Head, Media & Publicity, Samin Amaddin, who confirmed Babachir's arrest, said he is currently being interrogated by EFCC investigators and that he is so far cooperating.
Babachir was sacked by President Buhari on October 30th 2017 following his indictment in a report by the presidential investigation panel chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, that investigated his involvement in the misappropriation of funds meant for the welfare of Internally Displaced Persons IDPs.
