Tor Tiv: We Lack Confidence In Operation Cat Race

The Paramount Ruler of the Tiv nation, Orchivirigh, Prof. James Ayatse, has said the Benue people do not have confidence in Operation Ayem Akpatuma (Cat Race) recently launched by the Nigerian Army.
He said the operation, expected to begin work in troubled areas of the state on Thursday, was belated and pre-announced by the Federal Government.

The paramount ruler was speaking at an interactive session on Sunday night via Monday morning in Makurdi with members of the Federal Government’s sub-committee on farmers/herders’ crisis headed by Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi.

He said the grace period given for the commencement of the operations was “to allow the enemy fizzle out” and if the herdsmen move out “what is the cat coming to do? What is the aim of this operation, cat race?”

Ayatse said both the federal and Nasarawa state governments did not say anything about the spate of killings, especially those in his domain in Benue and over 40 others in Nasarawa State.

The royal father said his traditional council has the details of Tiv people killed by suspected herders in Nasarawa State, wondering why the grazing law had become a problem to a section of people.

“That law is Benue law; it is the people that have made that law. If per-chance the governor says he is tired, we (Benue people) shall not be tired of the law,” he said.
