As Benue Becomes First State to Launch 2015 MDGs Projects.
Thirty-two (32) communities across Benue State, are beneficiaries of the 2015, Millennium Development Goals Conditional Grant Scheme (MDGs - CGS).
This even as the state is the first among the 36 states of the federation to access the grant owing to its prompt payment of N1.2 billion counterpart fund which has been matched by the Federal Government bringing the total to N2.4 billion.
The total N2.4 billion is to be used for the construction of primary health centres, supply of medical equipment and furniture as well as solar powered boreholes to different communities across the state.
This disclosure was made yesterday by the representative of the Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Mr David Allu, during the flag off of the implementation of the 2015 MDGs-CGS.
Flagging off the Implementation, Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom disclosed that the counterpart fund of N1.2 billion was part of the N5.5 billion loan the government had procured with approval by the State House of Assembly.
He said the projects flagged off were based on the needs assessment of benefiting communities as well as a reflection of the five pillars of his administration.
Meanwhile the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs, NEPAD and Development Cooperation, Dr. Magdalyne Dura in her address thanked the state government for its prompt provision of the counterpart fund to enable the take off of projects while also enjoining the contractors to ensure they adhere to the terms of the contract including time of delivery and specifications even as she promised continuous transparency as witnessed in the selection process.
Responding on behalf of recipients, Engr. Peter Ashiekaa pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them.
