The New Dawn Of IT Professionals In Benue State: Meet Scott Ugba






Introducing one of Benue sons, Scott Ugba (born December 12th, 1988) is a Nigerian internet entrepreneur and activist based in Houston Texas United State, best known for Software and website developing.

Early Life and Education

Scott Ugba was born to the family of the late Ugba Gwar from Logo local government area of Benue State, a Ghanaian -born mother, Dr. Mirras. He went to St. Joseph Primary School Nyiman Benue State Nigeria and later proceeded to St. Francis Secondary School Cape Town South Africa.

He was admitted to the University of Cape Town South Africa where he graduates with a Degree certificate in Computer Science and Masters Degree in Computer Information Technology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal South Africa, he was conferred with a Masters degree with a score of 4.5% of a 5% score scale.

His Dissertation was on “Modeling Risk in ICT and Human Interactions with Technology "This research was considered the best among others. The article was dully published in ProQuest Academic Journal and also put in e-book form by Lambert Academic Publishing, UK. After graduating from the KwaZulu-Natal University South Africa in 2015 he enrolled for a PhD program with Walden University USA where am presently reading Computer Forensic Investigation and Analysis. He received an advanced Military Training at the Military College of Georgia now the University of Northern Georgia where he made 45% scores over 100% on weapons training.

In 2009, He spoke at TED about a whale named Mister Splashy Pants.

Open Internet Activism

In late 2010 and early 2011, he spoke out against Congress's Stop Online Piracy Act and the Senate's Protect IP Act. He also led the Internet-enabled grassroots campaign that eventually overturned the two bills. He spoke to some members of IT professionals, who helped launch the national anti-SOPA/PIPA protests that took place on January 18, 2012, and spoke at the rally in New York that was organized by NY Tech Meet-up.

In October 2012, Scott Ugba teamed up with Reddit General Manager Erik Martin and embarked on the Internet 2012 Bus Tour from Denver, CO to Danville, KY to campaign for the open Internet during the Presidential and Vice Presidential debates. In response to his work advocating for the Open Internet, The Daily Dot named Mr. Scott Ugba number one in their top ten most influential internet activists of 2012.

Awards and Honours

In 2013, Scott was featured as "champion of innovation" in the 20th Anniversary issue of Wired. In 2014, he won the essay competition of ICT organized by Ministry of Communication and Technology South Africa and was presented with the following awards.

He was also involved in an easy competition on ICT and he came out with the prize issued to him by South Africa Ministry of Communication and Technology.
He is indeed making Benue proud.

Speaking Engagements And Media Appearance

Scott Ugba has spoken at over seven universities, and lectured at conferences like TED, the Clinton Global Initiative, SXSW, and ROFLCon. He has spoken to a range of companies on IT Solution, including Google, BBDO, Counter terrorist Center & AVRS Consultant Ltd, where he once serves as e-commerce Director. A company owned by his grandmother Dr. Mirras he was also the keynote speaker at an entrepreneurship Summit in Cairo organized by the U.S. State Department months after the Egyptian Revolution. Ugba has appeared on numerous major television networks, including NBC, ABC, CBS, CNBC, CNN, MSNBC, Bloomberg. He has been interviewed on The Colbert Report, Charlie Rose, and Meet the Press. He has also been featured and quoted in notable magazines titled IT Mayors on the street.

Today the Nigerian born father Ghanaian mother young professional IT entrepreneur has successfully launched a Risk Management Software called Enterprise Risk Management Software. (ERM) is built on the Enterprise Risk Management platform using the Bow-Tie Technique in developing an on-line real time Software to manage the inherent risks in banking operation.

The software is holistic in operation, and flows from down to up of the system capturing all transactions keyed into the banking system from any angle. It is usually hocked to the main operating Software of the bank and it prompts for information on every transaction keyed into the banking system, picking data relating to Credit Risk, Marketing Risk, Liquidity Risk, Operational Risk and Solvency risk. It also helps in generating daily reports for the Management for controls.

Media

In a recent interview with Mr. Scott Ugba at Cape Town International Convention Center (CTICC) South Africa, he expressed that the main objective of the Software was to assist in eliminating some inherent risk in the Banking system.

The young Internet entrepreneur recently received an Award from the Nigerian Risk Management in recognition for his hard work and dedication to the IT Industry.
