The Benue State Security Council has banned operations of motorcyclists popularly known as
"Okada" within Makurdi metropolis from 6pm to 6am.

This is part of measures by the State Government to strengthen security in the state and forestall breakdown of law and order.
Addressing journalists today shortly after an emergency State Security Council meeting,

While urging security agencies to arrest and prosecute those fomenting trouble in the state capital, Governor Ortom expressed happiness that the swift intervention of security agencies had since brought the situation under control.
He called for intensive security surveillance especially during the night to ensure that no reprisals are carried out.
The Governor said the alleged killing of a young man by yet to be identified youths sparked the protests in some parts of Makurdi.
