Governor Samuel Ortom in church
Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom today said God has told him to stay off the appointment of traditional rulers, The governor said this while speaking at the Redeemed Christian Church of God Mercy Land Parish, Ankpa Road Makurdi.

He said:

I have prayed and God has told me to stay off the appointment of traditional rulers.

I have signed the chieftaincy law passed by the Assembly into law, we have vacant traditional stools including the Tor Tiv.

I am not going to interfere into selection and appointment of Tor Tiv or any traditional ruler and no one will influence the process. It's going to be fair and transparent.

We have declared fasting and prayer to that effect to clear the notion from our people that traditional stool is anchored on witchcraft.

If you recall, the paramount ruler of Tiv Late Chief Akawe Torkula died over a year ago and no one has replaced him since then.
